Spinach

Low in calories and high in vitamins, spinach is one of the most nutrient-dense foods. This leafy green is home to many phyto-nutrients that have health promotional and disease prevention properties, including vitamins K, A, B6 and B1. Spinach leaves also contain a good amount of minerals like potassium, manganese, magnesium, copper and zinc.

Regular consumption of spinach in the diet helps prevent osteoporosis (weakness of bones), iron-deficiency anemia. Moreover, its soft leaves are believed to protect human body from cardiovascular diseases and cancers of colon and prostate.

Handling Tips

Look for bright green, fresh tender leaves. Avoid spinach that is yellowish or wilted and gritty. Refrigerate in crisper.
