Romaine Hearts

Romaine hearts may be the secret to a salad worth crunching on, but they also have a variety of health benefits. They are the crunchy, center leaves of romaine lettuce heads and are packed tightly together. Romaine hearts are excellent sources of vitamin A to promote eye and skin health.

The delicate, innermost leaves of a head of romaine tend to be milder in flavor and brighter in color than outer leaves.

Handling Tips

Hearts of romaine can be used in many different ways beyond a salad. First, wash and dry thoroughly on paper towels before storing in a plastic bag in the refrigerator crisper for up to a week. Try cutting romaine hearts into wedges and throwing them on the grill or even stir-fry it to switch things up.
